So after 9 not-so-long months in medical transcription school I have finally graduated and I passed all of my classes the first time around! YAY ME!!! Now it is time to look for a j.o.b. My resume is currently in the hand of my brother-in-law for review and editing. He will help me make it look professional and then I will send them out to wrangle me the million dollar job.
Nervous? Hell yeah! I haven't worked in over 8 years. Excited? Hell yeah! I don't know if I am ready but I am always up for a challenge and I am always up for making moolah. I have to say how very fortunate I am that I am going to be able to work from home and be there for my kids and continue to homeschool them. I know it will be hard as hell, I probably will have to work into the wee hours of the night so that I can still focus my attention on my top priority, my family. But I can sleep when I am dead (in 80 years) right?

Congratulations. I'm a medical transcriptionist too. I started transcribing when I went through my divorce when my kids were 3 and 6. They are 19 and 22 now. I worked as an independent contractor from home, but had onsite jobs as well. My last transcription job, which I left in January, was working for a group of spine surgeons for ten years, the last 2-1/2 of which I was working for them full-time as their transcription dept manager. Great job, great benefits, but I was burned out. With my kids now grown, I just felt it was time to move on and explore other options. Transcription has changed in the years since I started transcribing -- many offices, hospitals, etc. are choosing to send their dictation overseas in an effort to save money. In fact, my company had me looking into having our dictation done in the Philippines (one of the reasons I left). It's a shame because it's one of the jobs in American where single moms and families as well can make a living and still be present to parent their children -- I've always said, flexibility is key -- and transcription gave me that. I wish you luck. I know of a transcription company in Southern California that may be able to send you some work -- owned by two women who know the challenges of raising kids and started their company with that in mind. Convo me if you want their contact info.
Congratulations! You know you're all about it, you'll find a job in no time!
